{Why: Whimsy Lilac}

{Whimsy}

       I love so many whimsical things and I change my time-consuming hobbies, oftentimes, on a whim. So in the future, I hope to share posts of handmade jewelry, paintings, crafts, & photographs.  Come to think of it, I'm the same way with books... I meander through different genres and writers until I just immerse myself in one that I love.

     On another, loosely related thought, I love faeries. Yes, I meant to spell it that way. In my opinion, they are the epitome of whimsy. I have a daughter, named Cecily and she is a close second to faeries in whimsicalness.  She turns two today, and I believe she lives in a very whimsical world.  She is the perfect offspring of her musical, book-loving, philosophizing, fairy tale-telling, parents. Very recently, Cecily blossomed into a pint sized ballerina who insists on wearing her new pink tutu five out of seven days and prefers dancing with a bouquet of flowers.
She prefers a waltz to any other tune.

     Dancing is whimsical, I love to dance, and so does Cecily.
In fact, I devoted twelve years of my life to studying and dancing dances, my favorite being ballet.  My husband, however, does not, will not, and never has, without great coercion, danced.  Oftentimes, he provides the music for his girls with a piano or guitar.
We have a lovely, musical, and whimsy little home in Memphis, TN.

{Lilac}

Purple is my favorite color. Well, not really a vibrant purple, or any royal variety. I prefer the periwinkles, lilacs, and lavenders.  But the Whimsy Periwinkle just doesn't roll off the tongue, now, does it?  It is no secret to anyone who really knows me that purple is my favorite color.  While I do believe that a light purple shade is one of the most pleasing colors to the eye, I remember making a conscious decision to claim purple as my very favorite.
It's a sweet little sentimental story:

     When I was young, I spent a good deal of time with my maternal grandmother during the summers.  One day before leaving the grocery store I begged her for a quarter to go to the little junk machines while she was checking out. She granted me my wish and off I went to pick a slot. I chose the machine full of birthstone rings. After depositing my quarter and twisting the handle I lifted the metal flap. I took hold of my prize and popped open the plastic egg container to discover an imitation purple amethyst ring. My Mem-maw's birthday was only three days before mine and, upon seeing what I had bought, she explained that we shared the same birthstone. And as luck would have it, it was the very color of my 25 cent ring. I loved that ring and cherished it; and then lost it like any fourth grader would.
So many years ago, I fell in love with purple.
